This grant opportunity is for California public libraries that do not currently participate in California Library Literacy Services (CLLS). CLLS libraries support adult literacy instruction for community members, and abide by the CLLS mission, values, and program essentials: https://libraryliteracy.org/for-coordinators/mission-values/ New applicants must apply to provide adult literacy services to low-literacy English speaking adults and may also apply to provide services to adults who are English language learners (English as a Second Language, or ESL) and/or family literacy services focused on the family and caregiver roles of adult literacy program participants. For full information on the grant opportunity, visit https://libraryliteracy.org/for-coordinators/reporting-state-funding/ Please note that the initial application through the Submittable portal is significantly more complex that the renewal application filed by current programs. Information on CLLS and allowable/unallowable expenses is available at https://libraryliteracy.org/for-coordinators/program-information/ Applicants must be California public libraries, excluding public law libraries. A working definition of a public library is: "'Public library' means a library, or two or more libraries, that is operated by a singlepublic jurisdiction and that serves its residents free of charge." More information is available upon request. Up to five awards will be made, with a minimum annual award of approximately $20,000 (or less if requested). These funds are projected to support a three-year initial funding cycle, at the end of which a library must meet the local matching funds requirement for CLLS. California Library Literacy Services is an ongoing service in which participating libraries are expected to submit a renewal application and report yearly.
