California Opportunity Youth Apprenticeship Grant Round 1

The COYA Grant Program received $20 million in FY 2022-2023 and another $20 million in FY 2023-2024. The COYA Grant aligns with Governor Newsom’s “Freedom to Succeed” Executive Order, which tasks key state education and workforce leaders to develop a Master Plan on Career Education to guide the state’s efforts to strengthen career pathways, prioritize hands-on learning and real-life skills, and advance universal access and affordability for all Californians through streamlined collaboration and partnership across government and the private sector. This COYA Grant is a key mechanism to achieve this outcome, specifically with a focus on opportunity youth and connecting them with supported pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeship programs. The COYA Grant program includes 4 grant types: Pre-Apprenticeship Planning Grant (COYA-PP)Funding amount – up to $300,000 Grant duration – 1-2 years Apprenticeship Planning Grant (COYA-AP) Funding amount – up to $500,000 Grant duration – 1-2 years Pre-Apprenticeship Implementation Grant (COYA-PI) Funding amount – $500,000 to $2,000,000 Grant duration – 2.5 years Apprenticeship Implementation Grant (COYA-AI) Funding amount – $500,000 to $2,000,000 Grant duration – 2.5 years
