Community Response Initiative to Strengthen Emergency Systems Act, or the C.R.I.S.E.S. Act

Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) sections 18999.90-18999.95 authorize the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to administer the Community Response Initiative to Strengthen Emergency Systems (C.R.I.S.E.S.) Grant Pilot Program. The CDSS will administer $10 million for grant-making to community-based organizations (CBOs) for emergency response pilots to lessen the reliance on law enforcement agencies as first responders to crisis situations unrelated to a fire department or emergency medical service response.
