Fertilizer Research and Education Program 2024

Each year, FREP solicits proposals for outreach, education, demonstration, and research projects that address FREP's funding priorities. Grant funding of $75,000 per year for up to three years is available in the 2024 grant cycle. FREP invites project proposals in three priority areas: 1- Nutrient and Irrigation Technical Education 2- Improving Nutrient and Irrigation Management A. Evaluating Challenges and Barriers to Adoption of Management Practices B. The Role of Organic Input Materials in Soil Nutrient Management C. Demonstrating and/or Validating Management Practices that Optimize Nutrient and/or Irrigation Water Use D. Filling Knowledge Gaps for Nutrient and Irrigation Management 3- Evaluating Nutrient Loss Pathways A. Understanding Nutrient Movement from the Root Zone B. Mitigation Strategies to Reduce Nutrient Losses Pre-proposals must focus on at least one of the priority areas. The Request for Pre-Proposals (RFP) has a two-phase annual process. Phase I is the submission and review of pre-proposals. After pre-proposals are reviewed, selected projects are invited to Phase II, the submission and review of full proposals. All projects should have strong scientific merit and research projects must include outreach to end-users. Outreach and education projects should include measures of impact. The workshop will highlight the application process and timeline and provide applicants with the opportunity to ask questions.
