Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) Fund 1.5

ETP is administering the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) Fund 1.5 in collaboration with the California Energy Commission (CEC) and is pleased to announce the availability of approximately $934,702 in funding to increase the number of electricians certified through EVITP within California. The purpose of the EVITP Fund is to train and certify electricians to install electric vehicle charging equipment statewide. Zero-emission vehicles play an important role in California’s efforts to reach its ambitious climate and air quality goals. The state has goals of getting 5 million zero-emission vehicles onto California roads by 2030 and 100% of all in-state sales of passenger cars and trucks are to be zero-emission by 2035. The CEC is the lead state agency investing in infrastructure to charge electric vehicles, which are available in plug-in hybrid electric and battery electric configurations. Through the Clean Transportation Program, the CEC also invests in training initiatives that are helping to drive the transition to clean, zero-emission electric vehicles throughout the state. Electric vehicle charging infrastructure and equipment funded by the CEC must be installed by a contractor with the appropriate license classification, and 25 percent of the total electricians, or at least one electrician, working on the crew for the project must hold EVITP certification. The EVITP Fund administered by the ETP will help train and certify electricians through EVITP to enable electricians to install charging infrastructure in California. EVITP is a nonprofit organization that provides online proprietary training and certification for general electricians to install electric vehicle supply equipment in the United States and Canada. The $275 online training program takes approximately 20 hours to complete. Curriculum modules include load requirements, electrical codes and regulations, electric installation of direct current chargers, inductive charging, vehicle-to-grid applications, and best practices for charger installation and maintenance. After successful completion of the online training course, electricians are certified through a proctored online examination. EVITP does not train or certify contractors or employers, only eligible electricians. EVITP certification is valid for three years.
