The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Lifelong Learning is accepting applications for the Public Humanities Projects program. The purpose of this program is to support projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life in three areas: (1) exhibitions, (2) historic site interpretations, and (3) public lectures and discussions. For 2027, NEH welcomes applications that promote deeper public understanding of the following topics: Western civilization and America’s place in it; great works of literature, history, philosophy, and theology and their relevance to contemporary questions; the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution; civic education; civil discourse; cultural literacy, and the practice of close reading. Public Lectures and Discussion Forums must address one of these interest areas. Program Details National Endowment for the Humanities is a federal agency that offers the Public Humanities Projects grant program to support arts and cultural programs. This funding opportunity is available nationally and is administered by National Endowment for the Humanities through Grants.gov. Organizations seeking funding for arts and cultural programs should review the details below and confirm their eligibility before preparing an application. Eligibility Eligible applicants include educational institutions, government agencies and municipalities, tribal governments and Native American organizations, and nonprofit organizations. Organizations that meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply and to review the full program guidelines before submission. Because eligibility rules and funding priorities can change between cycles, applicants should always confirm the current requirements with National Endowment for the Humanities or on Grants.gov before investing time in an application. Funding and Timeline Funding available: $1 – $2M. The application deadline is December 16, 2026 (54 days remaining). Applicants should allow sufficient time to gather required documentation, including organizational information, project descriptions, budgets, and supporting materials as specified in the program guidelines. Submitting a complete application well ahead of the deadline reduces the risk of disqualification on technical or administrative grounds. Program Focus This grant supports arts and cultural programs. This grant is associated with NAICS industry classifications: 611310, 712110. Organizations operating in these sectors are encouraged to review eligibility.
