Cost share is 70% of the total project cost, not to exceed the per acre rate for each practice. Cost share is available starting at 5 acres of forestland up to a maximum of 100 acres per tract, per year and up to 100 acres per landowner per year. Invasive plant control may be cost-shared on as little as 1 acre, although the tract must contain at least 5 acres of forest. Practices must be completed by May 31 so they can be verified and payments processed before the end of Virginia's fiscal year June 30. Landowners who also own primary wood processing facilities are not eligible. Program Details DOF is a funding organization that offers the Growing and Protecting Forests Cost-Share Program grant program to support eligible programs and projects. This funding opportunity is available statewide and is administered by DOF through Virginia Department of Forestry Financial Assistance. Organizations seeking funding for eligible programs and projects should review the details below and confirm their eligibility before preparing an application. Eligibility Eligible applicants include individual applicants, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies and municipalities. Organizations that meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply and to review the full program guidelines before submission. Because eligibility rules and funding priorities can change between cycles, applicants should always confirm the current requirements with DOF or on Virginia Department of Forestry Financial Assistance before investing time in an application. Funding and Timeline This is a rolling or open-cycle opportunity with no fixed application deadline. Applicants should allow sufficient time to gather required documentation, including organizational information, project descriptions, budgets, and supporting materials as specified in the program guidelines. Submitting a complete application well ahead of the deadline reduces the risk of disqualification on technical or administrative grounds. Program Focus This grant supports eligible programs and projects. This grant is associated with NAICS industry classifications: 113, 115310. Organizations operating in these sectors are encouraged to review eligibility. Funded projects are expected to demonstrate measurable outcomes aligned with the program's stated objectives.
